An Old Man's Anthology is a collection of stories, written in a busy career of learning how to live a happy life. The text is organized mostly in chronological order. That helped me to recall stories that fit into an easy sequence. The fictional pieces were created from scratch during years of developing writing skills. My goal with this book is to help me and others to relive events of a very full, eventful walk thru time.

The Irish Brahmin
A young Irish housemaid from Boston travels half way across the country in the 1870s to try to establish a Brahman life style at a wild west Army fort. She takes early trains to St. Louis where she marries, before she and her new husband take the dangerous steamboat trip 2300 miles up the Missouri River to Fort Benton, Montana.

Throughout my career in management consulting, I wrote extensively. Sometimes that required expository passages that inspired action, thought or insight. But it seldom led to character development, laughter, or empathy. It seldom employed scenes or dialog. I had to learn those writing skills after retirement.
For the last fifteen years I have enjoyed an environment in Santa Fe, New Mexico, surrounded by an enthusiastic and encouraging group of artists, writers and photographers. The writer's group at
El Castillo provided that evolving education, especially in developing fiction skills.

Aunt Netty and Me is a brief story with lucidity and directness. It has the clarity of a fairy tale. It touches most of us, the feeling of a child that she is presently secure - but that others hold her fate in their hands.
